History of the Chattanooga/LaFayette Emmaus Community

The Chattanooga/Lafayette Emmaus Community was started in 1989,from the parent community in Cleveland, Tennessee, and the grandparent community in Hinton, North Carolina. Attendance at the first community gatherings approximated twenty to thirty. Verner Ellis was our first community lay director, with the first walk (Men’s Walk) being held in the fall of 1989. At that time, four walks adult walks a year were scheduled. The Stillwater community (in the Spring City area) was started as an outgrowth from the Chattanooga/LaFayette Emmaus Community.

Our walks are held at Camp Lookout on Lookout, Mountain.

Today our community has grown to well over 2000 members offering three walks for adults and one chrysalis flight each year.
